Judy William's Biography

Judy Williams grew up in a small town on the Canadian border in northern Maine. She got her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1974 and her Master of Arts in English/Creative Writing in 1998.

She was awarded the Steve Grady Prize in both Fiction and Journalism from the University of Maine. She has also twice been the recipient of a Martin Dibner Fellowship in Writing from Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance and has attended residencies at Monson Arts and Hewnoaks.

 

After a few years of adjunct teaching of composition, creative writing, literature and business/technical writing, she assumed the position of Writing Center Director and English Instructor at Unity College (now Unity Environmental College). She retired from this position in 2016 and is currently working on Thorns in the Spirit: A Memoir of Intergenerational Trauma and is reworking a collection of linked short stories entitled A Binding Promise. At various times Judy has written poetry, fiction and memoir.
